Newline Showers

Channel drains are usually the last thing that comes to our minds when designing a new bathroom, yet this small product plays a big role in keeping things in order – from proper water drainage to keeping foul smells away!  So, before your specify for your next Channel Drain, keep these 7 things in mind:

1. Quality

Any reputable professional puts the quality of a product as one of the top factors before specifying anything, and this should be no different when it comes to channel drains.  This is because you understand that the quality of a product you specify on a project reflects on your reputation. It’s important to look for acrylic shower wastes that are made from high-quality materials that are durable and resistant to cracks, scratches, and discoloration.

Here at Newline, our Channel Drains are made from High-Quality 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel. As the name suggests, this is the preferred steel for use in marine environments because of its great resistance to corrosion. The 316 Marine Grade Steel is also superior then the 304 Marine Grade Steel due to the fact that it contains more nickel and between 2-3% more molybdenum.

2. Wide Variety

When it comes to specifying for large projects, it is rare that the “one-size-fits-all” approach works. With that in mind, it is important to consider the variety of colours and sizes of the channel drains being procured. This is especially true with premium bathroom projects that require high levels of customisation.  Newline has recently launched a new colour range of channel drains that aside from the tried and tested chrome and black colours, now include Brushed Brass, Brushed Nickel, and Gun Metal.

These later three colours, have been brought into the market due to the demand on high-quality channels that match the fixtures of our own Shower Ranges including the Acclaim and Ravello.

Size

Newline Channel Drains come in a wide variety of sizes, below are some  including 710, 810, 910, 1100, 1310, 1510, 1710, 1910mm as well as customisable options.

3. Odour Prevention

One of the most common concerns brought to us by customers was that channel drains that they’ve used in the past from other companies have brought a foul smell and therefore, they were reluctant to go ahead with a new channel drain. This happens when a Channel Drain doesn’t have a fall, and as a consequence a stagnant pool of water is formed, bringing an unpleasant smell to the shower. As pictured below, the Newline Channel Drains have a fall that makes the water drain freely, avoiding any pooling and therefore, there’s no risk of bad smell.

4. Water Flow Rate

Check the water flow rate of the waste to ensure efficient drainage. Opt for a waste with a higher flow rate to prevent water pooling in the shower and ensure quick drainage.

5. Installation & Warranty

When specifying for a channel drain, take into consideration how easy the product is to install and what sort of warranties are offered by the manufacturer you’ve chosen. Look for products with warranties that cover defects and ensure peace of mind with your purchase.

As for the installation, products that are overly difficult to install will likely increase the cost of a labour in the project. Here at Newline, our Channel Drains are designed to suit the Newline ProFinish Tile Tray System, but they can also be compatible with other shower tray systems.  You can have access to our Channel Drain Spec Sheets and Installation Manual here.

6. Cleaning & Maintenance

Evaluate how easy it is to clean and maintain the channel drain you’re about to specify.  While there are “grated” looks like in the below picture, these can become quite time-consuming to clean overtime. We’d recommend you opt for products with smooth surfaces and removable components for effortless cleaning and maintenance.

7. Ease of Specification

As leaders in the construction industry, building companies know that their reputation is built on a foundation of trust, quality, and excellence. Specifying reliable, high-quality products is not merely a preference but a necessity to maintain and enhance that reputation. Specifying Newline Channel Drains in your next project ensures that you are selecting the finest products in bathroom solutions, known for their durability, innovative design, and exceptional performance.
