Did you notice that when you are showering the water is lingering on the shower floor for way longer than expected? With time, it is normal that the build up of hair, skin, dirt, water minerals and soap scum will clog your shower drain, therefore preventing the water to flow freely.
If not fixed, clogged drains will bring an unpleasant musty odour to your bathroom and with all the build up of the bacteria it may pose a serious risk to your health.
To access your drain, you will have to remove the drain cover. Some covers can be easily removed without any tools while other might need a screwdriver. Make sure you are wearing rubber gloves while you are in the process of removing the cover.
Once you have done that you should be able to remove all the hair and dirt built up. You can do this by pulling out with your fingers. If you have rather deep drain, we’d recommend you use a torch to see if there is anything else clogging in the drain, so you can remove accordingly.
If removing the hair and dirt has not done the trick yet, it may be the case that there is too much grime built up. So, you might need to step up your game and use a drain cleaner instead. Check out some examples of drain cleaners:
Always make sure to read the manufacturer’s instruction for the safe handling and use of these products.
After you’ve done that run some water to check if the problem has been solved. In most cases, this would suffice, however, if the problem persists, it may be a good idea to call a plumber as it could be a more serious problem.
